charity blog and wp-theme competition : anyone

November 8th, 2006 by WebMatrix · 2 Made Me Smarter

Today some random thoughts I have had lately. I think this entry might become sticky for some days.

Blogging charities

Many bloggers I read, regularly do donate blog revenues to a charity or participate to events such as Blogathon, Boobiethon, Pink For October etc. Sadly the revenue majorly depends on the popularity of said blogger and doesn’t always help involved charity long term.
Very often also we, me included as I work for a charity, tend to forget all the other charities that exist. We know one, eventually two, but besides that …

And how many (smaller) charities do (have a) blog? Realizing how hard it is to convince my boss/project director to start a blog, I would love to start a blog/website dedicated to blogging charities.

I do know there are several projects, even big ones such as netsquare, but the word can never be spread enough.

Wordpress Theme Competition

I do love Wordpress and use it on all my sites as blogging platform. Wordpress has a huge fan base and many people developing plug-ins and themes. Volunteers investing their time in our community. Creating us lovely themes and plug-ins.
I would love to do something back for our community.
A Wordpress-theme competition.
Personally I’ll throw an iPod Shuffle/Nano (depending on contest popularity) in the price top.

Sadly, my blog isn’t that popular to create any of both thoughts, so this is a call to all the more known bloggers out there. A call to participate and promote both ideas.
In the next days I will mail many of the people in my feed roll, but feel free to drop me a line if you’ld like to help realize this. If you would know any sponsors who would aid any event, feel free to contact me.
Or just spread the word. :)

PS : None of both will be hosted at this site, but at sites created for the event (or at yours if you think you can manage that). ;-)

It’s a good concept but if you don’t feel your blog is popular enough to generate enough designer interest it might be an idea to launch this project at Commons Design. This way instead of 50 designers developing 50 different themes each with their own good elements you can have 50 designers developing one awesome theme. Just thought I’d throw it out there. Love your blog!
