Am I Famous Now…

Another blogger I stalk was dooced. I have only been reading Mr.Fab for some months now, but can’t relate to the action his boss took. Actually I had the idea Mr.Fab was a hard worker, an employee who enjoyed his job. And I certainly never had the idea Mr. Fab was negative about his job on his blog.
Yesterday I was speaking with a friend (yes IRL, even not in IM) about the impact of blogs in our daily life.
I strongely advice all my clients to start blogging. If you have a company, a blog creates a new way of interaction with your (future) customers. I also advice every blogger, especially when commercial or corporate blogger to be honest with his/her readers, (future) clients. And that is the moment when I always seem to surprize company owners.

Be open and honest with your clients. Admit your errors, they will love it.

But yesterdays conversation was related to my job, my employer, the charity organization and their stubborness about blogging.

Not that long ago we had a fire in the yard. The next day I took some pictures, mainly for the insurance but also uploaded them to their new flickr-account. I pushed them to start a flickr account, or rather to start using it, and slowly they are starting to enjoy it. But at the same time I discover almost daily how big the distance between old-style and new-media thinking is. They still do think that the image towards the outside world should only show the best, the positive elements, thus resulting in the images getting deleted from flickr. Although I tried to convince them.
Funnily one of my colleagues asked some days later if those pictures were online because he wanted to show them to a friend. *Uhm*
This is also the colleague who has read all of my rants, rants which would surely fire me. I am aware of having written that they know about my blog, but at the same time I do think, am pretty sure the project leader would fire me if he discovered some of ‘em.

Although I am nowadays getting more and more open in the way I live blog (and also don’t hide my blog anymore), but also do think about the outside image, I always have to think back about my previous life. My life as a bartender, bar manager, bar owner. What would I do if a waiter, waitress would rant about her working place?

I am not sure I would fire him/her, but only if the blog were anonymous enough to hide which bar it is about I actually wouldn’t care at all. But if he/she were ranting openly about the place and mention its name or address, I admit I would fire him/her merciless.

What is the difference between a blog and a coffeetable of gossipping housewifes? You tell me.

And thumb up for the way Mr. Fab dealt with this.
