As I retook web design this year I started buying books. Yes printed books. Since alot of stuff doesn’t exist as .pdf or audiobook, I actually had to read. Pre-ordering books seems to become a new hobby. Today added as #7 Beginning CSS Web Development. This will be #24 in the category Design/Development this year, I think I bought around 35 books already this year. One day I might actually have read them all.
I am actually buying all the books published or featured by designers, developers listed in my Blog Stalks. Hopefully my blogroll will not continue to grow or I might have to return to browse the traffic rotations at BlogExplosion and BlogMad. Would surely be cheaper.
I prefer pdfs tho since they are easily searchable, even when not at home. And I can read them on my PDA. And they don’t take any space in my small living property.
Anyway I am looking forward to this book as Blog Design Solutions (co-authored by Simon Collison) was an interesting read. CSS Mastery was a sad personal story. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to get it back from my damn neighbour and finally read it.
Another great resource to me were several books of Sitepoint, especially the reference posters, I like fast reads.
I would gladly figure out how all those professionals, regularly apoligizing for the lack of new posts, find time to read all the new books. Between designing, blogging apologizing, learning new platforms and techniques, travelling the world to conferences and quite often another job, where do they fit book reading in or is that the reason why they blog apologize, which would lead me to put up a sign :
DISCONTINUED BECAUSE I AM READING BOOKS!
I can assure you that won’t happen pretty soon. I have no damn time to make a sign ‘Discontinued’, I need to read books. No need to volunteer to make one either ;)
