Will I manage it? strangely isn’t one of the thoughts that occupy me right now. No, what occupies me right now are my needs to work in a positive atmosphere opposite to how a big and classic corporation functions.
If tomorrow I were to order 24 high end notebooks, one for every team member, this would be no problem and we would have them the day we effectively start. Even together with the 24 24″ flat screens I’ld love to use.
But if I told them that I wanted one big room/lounge and a huge amplifier with appropriate speaker system, a tennis table table, free drinks, wall-color:#FFF4AE;, ceiling-color:#FFF5B5;, door-color:#A9EEFD;, table lamp X and fruit bucket Y the problems would start.
If at the same moment I would ask $ XXX for monthly events such as rock climbing, carting, party and lots of beer Tanqueray and Tonic problems are bound to increase.
And last but not least, if I told them I wanted a HD projector to play daily during work time a movie and enough of chairs for everyone to comfortably sleep sit in the central (movie) lounge, they would probably slip me a triple Tanqueray with single float of Tonic.
Will I get the huge room with enough of space to have a daily table tennis competition without having to move everything, watch movies and have a daily team member DJ music selector?
Will I get two huge wooden 16 person tables, preferably each with 2 long benches as working desks (and a paper bin message note collector in the middle of each)?
Will really hot brunette have enough of space to dance on our team desks?
Will the company subside sponsor pay regular team events such as parties and drinking sports activities?
Computers? Who cares, we all have our (own) notebooks anyway.
No. Totally not. We’ll have 10-15 offices, if we are lucky less but an area with several cubicles. In latter situation, trust me that they will be taken apart very fast and the area will be reshaped. We will also benefit the joys of neon lights and the occasional zombie plant.
If we are lucky, we might have a 3 piece suite to relax. Coffee and soda will have to be paid privately. Parties will be tickets to congresses.
All the rest probably was merely a dream of mine.
If there were a way not to have [sic] the nice office with sea view, I would rather go for the big room for 24. My kingdom department for every possible team (and atmosphere) building option!
This gig will require the best chameleon I have in me. I already know that today.
And I am sure she even checked mentioned colors. :-P
