I heard yesterday that my girlfriend’s granny thinks she has to move out when I arrive in the States. Gran is catholic in heart and soul.

I lived with my girlfriend who then became my fiancee and wife. I’m Catholic, and we had to do the mandatory Catholic marriage counseling before we could get married in the Catholic Church.
The priest we spoke with actually said he had no problem with people living together. I think if you could find a liberal Catholic priest (they’re out there - try the lower income neighborhoods) to write off on living together, you can tell the granny to suck your stump.
