Manners and dooc’ed

February 21st, 2006 by WebMatrix · 16 Made Me Smarter

First of all. Let’s put this straight.
Where are your fucking manners ???
So far 76 persons visited Dawn from Bumfuck Nowhere and not one single person greeted her. Actually I thought you all agreed with my last post (scroll down a little you nerds). Now I could go on and on about how picky I am choosing renters and all the nice blogs I ‘discovered’ before they suddenly appeared on every blog roll, but I just won’t.

Again Dooce was good for some controversy yesterday and today. I made a comment at another place I hang out often about someone who linked to dooce. You know, dooce, yes the one who got dooced. Probably the most popular blog nowadays. The subject of the controversy was ‘being (un)cool by linking to dooce’. Personally I think dooce sucks as a person and lied about why she got fired but that is totally irrelevant here.
Actually I would like to know what you think about blog rolls. I daily read a lot more blogs as the few ones I ‘promote’ here. I don’t do any social linking (no I will not link to you because you link to me, but when I discover that you link to me I will start reading your blog and maybe one day…) but ‘pick my links’ carefully. Of course it are my ‘favourite’ daily reads but mainly blogs I tend to promote. For some days I have tried out My Blog Log to see what you clicked and I was actually surprised how many times links get clicked. So I think it is important to maintain a ’selective’ blog roll. Sometimes it happens to me to swap links in my blog rolls. Does it mean that I don’t read you anymore ? No, it just means I think I should ‘promote’ another blog for a while. The blogs I read I got them bookmarked. I like to ‘offer’ my readers a small but exquisite blog roll, a blog roll where you can easily find a good read. Now I think it is ‘annoying’ to find something in blog rolls with 70 listed blogs. That is why I keep my blog roll ’short’. And as for linking to the Danielle Steele, just as boring, of the blogosphere no thanks. Dooce get’s enough of publicity and I still think she lied. What is your view on blog rolls ?

Did you actually already greet her?

I don’t care for Dooce, I try to keep my blog roll to people I read and read way more people then I blogroll.

I usually blogroll when I find a site I want to return to. I return and if it’s not something that I’d read once again — I remove it. If it is, they stay. I keep up with my blogs in the list though and if there’s not an update for a week or more, and I don’t expect one, they’re off.

I am quite selective too and sometimes I visit a blog daily but don’t add it. I just forget I guess.

Like, now, I visit you at times but you’re not on my blogroll.

I’m alot like you in that I like to keep it short where possible…I think that anyone clicking links will become overwhelmed if you have too many!

Good question. I asked it on my blog and got some nice responses :)

i won’t NOT read a blog that links/reads Dooce, but I just don’t understand her popularity. I’ve tried to get into Dooce (that sounds naughty), but it’s just not my style. Plus I don’t really like any blogs that don’t let you comment.

Hehe, I like your sense of humour. After all, you have a “Blogroll me” link on your sidebar, have you not?

Blog Rolls give me gas, frankly. Even when I smother them in butter.
But, seriously, I don’t have one on my “blog” because I don’t like clutter. The people I read, I have blogmarked. Maybe some day, when I have a real blog, I will put a Blog Roll on there and, fuck yeah, bb, you will top the list. Duh!

I add people to my blogroll that I seem to go back and read often. That way it just keeps me organized, so I’m not looking all over the place for all the blogs that I like to read. There are some people on my blogroll that I don’t read anymore, that I should take off. I also should take off those people who never vist my blog either.

I only keep people on my blogroll that I read and don’t do social blogrolling or the political blogrolling thing.

As far as Dooce is concerned…I’ve never understood what the hype about her is about. Her writing doesn’t move me in anyway. I’ve read people far more better who have far less advertising and far better designed blogs. I like an entire package when I go to a blog. Dooce doesn’t do it for me.

You really think she is lying?

Croaker :: I would be surprised if you only read those blogs that are on your roll.

Cat :: I most of time keep the blogs for a while, no matter if they update regularly or not.

Dawn :: I actually don’t care who people link to but always check the blog roll because it gives me ’some insight’ in that person. Just the ‘dooce remark’… it was IT2M, shit happens.

JD :: damn just disovered that you’re among my links as well…

    Oti :: duh…

Kimi :: I don’t bother if they link back or visit. If I like a blog that doesn’t mean that blogger has to like me as well.

RB :: dooce ‘goes to pee too often’. She is too boring for me. I read her quite often to try to ‘get the picture’ but no… not my cup of coffee. I don’t like it but I can understand the ‘comment part’. Moby (although boring as well but I still read him) doesn’t have comments either. Those ’stars’ would just get too much trolls and need to hire moderators.

And yes I think dooce lies. There was no ‘professional reason’ to fire her. Same as that AA stewardess (sorry have forgotten her yellow blog). Do your damn job properly and you’ll get away with a warning. But good marketing, I admit.
I damn said that my colleagues were cokesnorters. Now most of them read daily. And I am still working there.

I didn’t know you thought she was lying. Although I don’t remember you saying that last night. I like you, your blog and your opinions. I should have added you a while ago but I got busy with shit. I’ll do it now so quit whining. KIDDING!

I’m not at all upset over the ‘conversation’ we had. I like the people on my blogroll and I’ve been reading Dooce the longest. Maybe it’s the emotional investment I have with her and her family, who knows, but I do go there every day and I’m not ashamed. Yes there are definitely better blogs out there. They are on my blogroll. Great post madbull, as always.

Hey guess what? I’m an ass. You’ve been on my blogroll for some time. I visit people through my favorites so sometimes I forget who is on that page.

You always leave me feeling so unsure of myself…

JD :: although I admit not being the ‘black background fan’ I still read you :P

Karen :: I know you blogrolled to me, thanx for that. You are the only real mommy blog I read daily. And you are a ‘damn hip momm’. Of course the comments @ IT2M made me think, but this post wasn’t because of you. I just felt ‘I had to post something’ and well yes the post that came some hours later took me ‘all my inspiration’. As for dooce I wrote in my answer over there how I felt about her (I think)

Too funny. (I don’t get Dooce either)

Anyways…I usually blogroll people I read. I bookmark people who list me so I can go check them out when I have time to see if I get in to them….

Well, I would like to say I aim to please, but I don’t ;-)
I like my morbid depiction of Ophelia, thankyouverymuch It suits me right now. I am sure that I will get bored after a while and need a change, but I feel dark right now. ;-)
