Mommybloggers and BlogHer

August 1st, 2006 by WebMatrix · 10 Made Me Smarter

I never understood the hype around the BlogHer conference. Yes it was supposed to be a conference but soon became a hype, the thing to do if you are/were a mommyblogger.

I didn’t understand the hype and drama about it. Certain female bloggers thought it was going to be a nice coffee table and were hostile towards any male presence.

Here a female view on the mommyblogging conference from Lasadh

Seriously. I’ve spent one evening in San Jose (and BlogHer hasn’t even officially started yet) near a handful of obnoxious “mommy bloggers” and I already want to rip their fucking ovaries out.

And I certainly don’t want to see pictures of your bigheaded, cross-eyed, nappy-haired spawn shoveling sand into its face at the beach last summer. Is this really all you have to say for yourself? Did you trade in your personality, brain and…well…life when those cells started multiplying in your womb?

Why did you go? Did you expect it to be a friendly and nice meeting with professional speakers AND audience? Obviously you haven’t been around the bloggosphere enough to have learned how mommybloggers are. Read their blogs and how their kids are THE best and you would have known ;)

lol - I thought it would be something for all female bloggers, not just the ones with children. I didn’t go - too expensive, even though it was in the area.

LOL, yeah it was also for all women and there even were some men present. A-Listers like Robert Scoble and Guy Kawasaki even.
But it has been hyped very much by the mommybloggers :P

As for the price, what was it? $295.
Depending on the programm I would say it is rather cheap for a conference, although I must say that the programm was rather poor. Of course I must admit I didn’t know many of the people listed but surely missed some notorious bloggers. Looked more like a gang convention to me :D

You go for the woman, nothing easy to pick up then bored mommy bloggers. Besides I could have seen Suki.

It’s expensive for a hobby that I do for free anyway. :P

Don’t know much about the whole blogher thing although I’ve seen the banner on a couple of sites. I just popped by to say hi as I’ve been offline for a while!

Blogher…the biggest joke I’ve ever seen. I was actually sucked into signing up at the website for godknowswhat, and I immediately found myself more bored than I ever have been in my life.

I think mommy bloggers drivel more snot and slime than their children do.

Actually too bad mommybloggers took that much over. I would have loved to see some genuine A-Listers (yeah female ones) share their blog experience aso. Wasn’t it a conference after all?

Sure, it would have been nice, but it seems mommybloggers need soo much more constant validation, and what better time or place to get it than a BlogHer conference, right? Unfortunately, for the rest of us, we’re left to wither in their BS.

I thought that BlogHer was going to be about real writers, true talent and genuinely interesting bloggers. I was sorely disappointed. Too bad too. It could have been a fabulous conference.

“I bet the team behind BlogHer made a nice $.”

I think you hit the nail on the head with that, right there. Money. It’s all about the money, isn’t it? It’s not about giving great blogs/bloggers the recognition and validation they need or seek, it’s about that almighty dollar.

I, apparently haven’t made it, since I’ve never heard of either one of the sites you referred to, but then again, I don’t need validation as a blogger.

I see BlogHer taking that mommyblogger thing by the horns and running full force with it. What brings more publicity than negative reputations and controversy. It keeps people talking for sure.
