I had forgotten how life on the road was. Last year I hardly had any of those wild days abroad. I never knew they were that exhausting.
On tuesday afternoon as I was chatting with a German friend, I suddenly realized I had an appointment next day in Hamburg (D) with the publisher. We were going to se what direction the cocktail book would take and how sponsoring brands would be integrated. At the same moment I realized a hectic 24 hours were about to start. I had to work as well this week.
Since I have many colleagues and friends in Hamburg, of course I had to arrange a great time. My bad.
Yesterday I almost overslept, but still managed it to catch the flight to Hamburg and be on time for planned breakfast. You have to know that Germany is a genuine breakfast out country, one of the things I always enjoyed most in that country. I could easily enjoy breakfast 2 hours or longer even. Sadly it was breakfast at 10.45 and at 11.30 a first meeting with the publisher was planned. A short one. We would meet again in the afternoon at 15.00.
In between both I had planned to meet with a colleague in his bar for a cortado (note from the editor : screw that and make it a bottle of Prosecco) and afterwards lunch with my favourite female architect [insert biggrin here] was scheduled. Time allowing after the second meeting I would quickly go to visit a friend who runs a fashion store (and probably buy a new suit as she sells my favourite brand).
Everything went as planned and time allowed a little shopping tour. If it wouldn’t have been for the lunch.
In my friend’s bar we soon landed on a nostalgic trip, thinking back of all the decadent Prosecco breakfasts we used to have back in the years and very quickly Prosecco ran easily down our throats. Too easily.
When I arrived for lunch I was slightly drunk already and the time with M. soon took a certain turn, yes we both had feet and legs under the table, and within minutes we were… talking about a wicked concept : using shipping containers as house.
We decided M. would join me on the store visit. I had a little more than one hour and luckily am an easy shopper. I mainly exclusively shop in stores where friends work because a. they work in cool stores and b. they know my style. So does A., so I didn’t expect any time related problems.
But people can be naive. Even I. A had already prepared two suits of a certain brand for me. I liked both. Almost as much. In any other circumstance I would have tried them out and probably ended up buying both, leaving town and catch my flight back home.
Not yesterday.
Not with female shopping assistance.
Of course M. had a preference for one of both and soon I was trying out that one. Barely had i put on the trousers when M. popped into the dressing room (yes we are good friends) and naturally had found a great shirt and belt for the second suit.
D’uh.
But I’ll save you the details. Of course I ended up buying both suits, a black pin-striped and a classic black one with several shirts, two belts and a new pair of shoes, freaking shoes.
And I missed the plain.
Luckily I managed it to get today of as well, when I called my colleagues, and even tomorrow morning.
So we had a great evening, visiting several of my bar friends, drinking lots of cocktails and afterwards we watched a movie at hers.
This morning started with a classic prosecco breakfast (did I tell you we have been together almost a year long in the past) and the day continued at a smooth pace.
Living decadently and only hopping bistros and bars.
After a great dinner, with a lovely bottle of Rioja, and some hours of cocktail lounging we are now gossipping our way through all your blogs. I have proxied into the server and soon we’ll be watching a movie. I put my money on Magnolia. She wants to watch this.
Tomorrow morning another breakfast is planned, just as the rush for my flight. Sadly I can’t stay over the weekend as I have an important meeting tomorrow afternoon.
