Since quite some years now rounded corners have been part of my obsessions. When I was still building platforms using Postnuke there where several methods to implement them. But basically no one really bothered about validation. Nor did I. One day I might actually care.
Actually rounded corners are not that hard at all to implement. Just make 2 images (top and bottom) and use a background as well. It works, it will be valid if your code is correct. Even one of my favourite female nerds geeks, Tech Wench, does it that way… I mean integrates rounded corners that way into themes. Her designs are always valid.
I for myself am way to lazy and would rather prefer to open Photoshop, yes I am still too lazy to dual boot and work with the Gimp, build a nice ’rounded box and use that one. Title, date and all the other stuff integrated. Would be lovely. And it is possible.
Ryan Trash developed a while ago a pretty technique for this. Read more about it here. Sadly it doesn’t seem to work with fluid designs (yet). Hopefully his series will see the end before March 23rd… yes I mean this year.
Now all start designing and build an 800*800 .png with rounded corners and not bigger than 5kb. Great quality is a conditio sine qua non of course. PNG sounds like transparency. Fun, this maybe another time. Yes I wrote ‘maybe’.
