Am I Famous Now…

...A Wise Man Knows Himself To Be A Fool

semi geek, multi-social

While configuring a computer for someone I suddenly remembered last.fm. I haven’t been listening for months to last.fm radio. I remembered I stopped using last.fm when the tags I listened to had nothing to play anymore. Lately I have mainly been listening to albums.

But everytime I configure a PC I always install the last.fm player. While downloading the last version I decided to check if there was a plug-in for WMP11 (yes I really started liking this player) and found it amongst the tools. This plug-in, just as the ones for iTunes and WinAmp (whose UI I loathe even more than iTunes ‘), will when connected to the internet submit the music you actually listen to to your last.fm profile. Afterwards the audioscrobbler engine does his work to continue building the social radio revolution… and your profile, just as your virtual music taste.

Last.fm can be compared to Pandora, but has a much more sophisticated platform, community. The website allows anyone to browse and discover any members music taste and charts and much more. Last.fm has member blogs and a very active community. A smart community which knows how to write and link, almost wiki-like. Every artist page you end on has a block with similar artists, much like the ‘members who bought this also bought’ block at Amazon, just much more sophisticated. And the results will definitely fit your taste more than the Amazon links.

Go try it now… it’s free and fucking rocks. Here is my profile, but so far I only submitted 2150 tracks, expect it to change alot in the next days (weekly charts are only updated on sunday). If you register at last.fm, drop a comment with a link to your profile. ;-)

And if you didn’t know, Air (go blame him) is at last.fm THE top band tagged electronic/electronica and has more listeners than fe. Massive Attack and Björk or Daft Punk.

On another note, if you have two computers you regularly use simultaneously (like desktop and notebook) grab Synergy an open-source tool which allows you to use one keyboard and mouse for both (or even more) computers. The configuration is a bit PitA, but once up and running it is a dream. And it’s free! Go get it.

And now go tell him to upload his music to last.fm, I already know how to tag it. :D
