vlogs

July 6th, 2006 by WebMatrix · 1 Shared a Little Bit of Ignorance Wisdom

Don’t be afraid, I am not starting a vlog. Not today, not tomorrow. But the day Jason Calacanis makes me a decent offer I might consider a vlog. Probably to be fired only some weeks later because I vlogged about Netscape.

Jason’s offers surely shows the power of the new media and how the whole blogosphere, podcasts and vlogs are changing the reading, listening and watching interests of the audience. Rocketboom got tivo’ed. Amanda got unBoomed and major companies will be at her knees over the next weeks.

Amanda WhoTF?! Amanda ‘Rocketboom’ Congdon. WhoTF?! Amanda who likes to link to her wikipedia entry. Web2.0 Amanda who has a Flash personal website.
250k Daily watchers. Unknown by 98% of the bloggers. Unknown by 99.99…999% of the media audience. Technorati for Amanda Congdon. All the main blogs are hyping about her unBoomedness. But the boom is not over. Will she be the first blonde talented snob making her way from the Internet to Hollywood? What do 10 minutes daily (maximum) mean in LA? She complains about not being able to move to LA without Rocketboom. Netscape/AOL might make it happen.

OMFG will I have to install that horrible browser again?

Sarcastically enough I was discussing vlogs some months ago with Jeff from Blogexplosion. I am still sad about the sale of Blogexplosion, but from the other side I also think this network was very un-new media (and obviously the new owners are as well). Sarcastically I told Jeff that vlogs were what was missing at Blogexplosion to expand more and be prepared for the newest hype. But interests in the blogosphere were gome already, the decision about the sale was made a long time ago. Just like many other people BE thought that the networking factor was going to disappear very quickly and blogland wasn’t going to be that important anymore in 2 years.

Is that the reason why people all around me start asking me how to start a blog? Is that why lots of people are still impressed hearing someone has a blog? Is that why o’Reilly wrote last year that blogs were going to replace Content Management Systems? Is it why tag clouds are being used more and more to replace categories? Is it why publisher pay per post nowadays? Amanda unBoomed has obviously shown the opposite.

So lets all enjoy a lovely mojito live online, forget myspace and watch TrueGritz. And who said blogs will die?
On a sidenote, I would surely do Amanda Congdon, but only once and make sure to be gone before dawn.
