Twitter For Marketeers By PStam

January 28th, 2007 by WebMatrix · 1 Shared a Little Bit of Ignorance Wisdom

Twitter LogoHe might not have thought of it, but Paul Stamatiou’s latest script RSS2Twitter will be loved by internet marketing strategists, phony SEO specialists and many more.

Marketeers most of time are the fastest ones to take up on new strategies and MyBlogLog is full of this species. You’ll hardly find any community without internet marketeers as its members. Being omni present all over the place has become what most of those new specialists consider marketing.
Fair enough, their believe and I wish them many success with this strategy.
At the same time I am surprised that they haven’t taken up on twitter.com yet. But times are bound to change.

Once they will discover that twitter a vibrating community is, they surely will sign up and befriend every one the can find. Especially now a simple script, which I also use, easily publishes all your entry links to your twitter stream.
The smartest ones, those with a little php and API knowledge will wait for the Shorty 1.0 release and abuse the new Shorty API to rewrite Paul’s script and abuse twitter’s PR1.

And turn twitter into the same whoring place MyBlogLog has become.

1 Twitter doesn’t use rel="nofollow".

Black Hat Linkbaiting, The Secret Behind And How To Linkbait Free Like They Do

January 28th, 2007 by WebMatrix · No Shared Ignorance Wisdom

Many people who ever have ventured in ebusiness world have developed a profound hate for the term Search Engine Optimization or SEO. The reason for this is that everyone who had been online for awhile and managed some websites had become an SEO specialist.
Offering services, expensive services.

With zero result.
No benefit for the webmaster who paid quite a lot of money to the SEO dude, but never saw an increase in traffic. Not one percent. In several cases it even resulted in blacklisted sites.
I am sure every experienced webmaster knows some of those stories. But good SEO specimens made real good money. And still do.

With changes in the Google algorithm, a new service is rising : Linkbaiting1.

January 26th, 2007 by WebMatrix · 1 Shared a Little Bit of Ignorance Wisdom

There is are already a 2 LG Shine videoS.

I preferred the LG Chocolate viral video.

But I am sure those aren’t the viral video for the LG Shine.

13 Days To Go : Will The LG Shine Go Viral Before The UK Launch?

January 25th, 2007 by WebMatrix · No Shared Ignorance Wisdom

Being invited to participate as a blogger to a pre-release program certainly makes fun. I enjoy it and although I do not have to blog about the LG Shine it surely makes fun to play around with the phone and to blog about it.
Early blog posts about the second LG phone of the Black Label Series were welcomed warmly and one could immediately feel that the Shine was going to create a buzz.

Technorati ChartSince the CES in Vegas there has been an increase in amount of LG Shine mentions in the blogosphere and yesterday, with the Shiny Shiny Video about the mirrored screen phone the buzz hit a first peak.
Just like it happens with almost every geek gadget, the LG Shine got his own User Group at Flickr. Some testers don’t limit themselves to only one entry, but it is obvious that the WorldWildWest.blogosphere.2zero will discover the smallest detail to criticize. And I am not not-guilty at this either.
Together with the discovered little problems, also less interesting details hit the blogosphere, such as only 50MB internal memory and 2G functionality for the first version.

To be honest I don’t want to be in the position of Gaylene Ravenscroft or the Hill & Knowlton team right at this moment. No one knows what is going to happen now : will the LG Shine go viral or will the phone get forgotten because many small annoyances have been uncovered already? 2

Hills & Knowlton have already proven their competence with 2 very positive campaigns for cell phones : the Motorola RAZR and the LG Chocolate. Once more the market a coup de coeur phone. Whether you love it from the first moment, whether you think “nah”.

H&K surely has planned some more surprises and we can expect at least one great video.
Probably UK network providers such as Vodaphone and T-Mobile will also push the phone. The great design lends itself perfectly for a very successful marketing campaign.
The blogosphere will adore the LG Shine1, but how long will it take before this happens?

LG Shine at IceRocket.comCould it be that marketing agencies still have to discover how to deal with the blogosphere? That they aren’t flexible enough yet to abuse first positive blogosphere vibes?
The LG Shine has a great track record online so far. 1GB internal memory, scroll wheel and 3G functionality… but also a great design. Everything needed to go big.
And the 1GB and 3G functionality are nothing more than a rumor that went viral, a blogger who thought we would see the same phone Koreans use in Europe and the rest of the world. Only the 3G version will come later.

Right now is the moment to create the big BUZZ! launching that viral video at YouTube! Hype the community and go viral online before launch already. Before the commercials will appear on TV.
That would be a great move for a marketing agency and perfect blogosphere marketing.

But I guesss I am nothing more than an encrusted blogger. A dreamer.
And they are a respected marketing agency.

An agency who has probably invited only 20 bloggers to the pre-release test. An agency maintaining a strict schedule about what will happen when. Not as flexible as the blogger hopes. Or at least this blogger hopes.
Probably they are only building Page and Trust Rank for the LG Shine Blog right now (and I am making sure H&K won’t send me another test gizmo anymore… Wuuppsss).

I would still love to see a company use the blogosphere to release a product and rely on the blogosphere. Gizmodo, Engadget, CrunchGear, Cnet. They can make any phone, any gizmo a great success. But this is still a long way to go. Hopefully one day we’ll see a blog strategist in every decent marketing agency.
And I am glad I can participate at this campaign.

Tomorrow I go promote the LG Shine the old-school way… at the cocktail lounge. :D

1 So do I. The more I get used to the phone, the more I like it.
2 H&K surely is not yet targeting the blogosphere. But I think they will run a succesful blog once the phone has been released on February 7.
I also hope they will soon integrate Ultimate Tag Warrior in their blog.

Microformats in Wordpress Cutline

January 24th, 2007 by WebMatrix · 21 Made Me Smarter

Microformats logoMicroformats have been a big hype among designers some months ago. It became a little quiet about Microformats lately, but they will be integrated in Firefox 3.0.

What are Microformats?

Designed for humans first and machines second, microformats are a set of simple, open data formats built upon existing and widely adopted standards.

I bet so far, you still have no clue what Microformats are. That is exactly how I felt first time I read about Microformats and visited the Microformats page.

Built for humans. Huh?
Lets try to explain Microformats more humanly understandable [sic], or just blunter.
Microformats are a new data implementation for web sites. They allow you to integrate your vCard, or even your feed content immediately into your website. And many more.
For geeks the explanation is “adding semantics to markup to take it from machine readable to be machine understandable”.
So with microformats we tell machines and software what content we actually deliver in that specific part. Microformats could become a standard for templates and the semantic web. No discussion anymore about what class to use for an entry, its title and the entry meta. We just use the needed Microformats classes.

I can already see that this post is becoming like the Microformats documentation, documented in Kyle Neath’s entry at Warpspire, so lets just get on with the implementation. Discover how to implement Microformats in your design after the jump.

2000 Blog Mugshots

January 23rd, 2007 by WebMatrix · 2 Made Me Smarter

2000 Blogger MugshotsI see people wanting to express themselves. Many people expressing themselves on their blog.
A-Listers, C-Listers, $tarfuck$ Z-Listers and No-Listers
I see bloggers promoting, or marketing, their expressions. Marketing strategists plastering their faces on every possible spot of the intarweb.

Individualists sharing their sheep-ism.
2000 individual sheep on the hunt for traffic.
Sheep with a mugshot.

But most of all I see… one damn smart SEO brain.

2000 mugshots. Will they bring as many incoming links for the webmaster?

We write January 23rd 2007. The 2007 linkbait game has already seen an attendant for the 2007 linkbait crown. Well done Tino.
I really hope you get those 2000 links back with your perfect linkbait. ;-)
