Black Hat Linkbaiting, The Secret Behind And How To Linkbait Free Like They Do

January 28th, 2007 by WebMatrix · No Shared Ignorance Wisdom

Many people who ever have ventured in ebusiness world have developed a profound hate for the term Search Engine Optimization or SEO. The reason for this is that everyone who had been online for awhile and managed some websites had become an SEO specialist.
Offering services, expensive services.

With zero result.
No benefit for the webmaster who paid quite a lot of money to the SEO dude, but never saw an increase in traffic. Not one percent. In several cases it even resulted in blacklisted sites.
I am sure every experienced webmaster knows some of those stories. But good SEO specimens made real good money. And still do.

With changes in the Google algorithm, a new service is rising : Linkbaiting1.

You need no money to linkbait

Over the next months many so-called SEO specialists will offer you linkbait services : write an article for you and promise you backlinks and a better PR, ranking in SERP.
And they will charge you a lot of money for. Think about amounts starting at $500.
If you run a company this might not be much, especially because probably you have no clue how-to link bait. And no time either.
But I say that linkbaiting, linkbaiting as it will be applied by most professionals can be cheaper. A lot cheaper.
Actually you only need some hours to obtain the same results. And no money at all.

How can links be guaranteed?

What does linkbait bring you?

A linkbaiter promises you to deliver an article, related to your content/niche and compelling enough to get incoming links to this article.
How can this be done? How can links be promised, guaranteed even?
There are some real good (copy)writers and SEO-specialists who know what hypes the blogosphere and can play with this. They can write to get dugg/netscaped/reddited. They have spend thousands of hours analysing the behavior of those communities, the behavior of the internet. They know the tricks and know how to play with the internet. And they are expensive, but success is (kind of) guaranteed.
The majority of the new class linkbaiters though is like many blog designers out there : they think they know a little know jack $hit.

So how will they run the campaign, how will they catch links? Or are they really ready to risk lots of trouble online by not delivering?
No. They have a security strategy. If they promise you at least 20 links, you will get your twenty links.
But the quality of those links might be poor : they might not generate you any benefit at all. Sites with low SERP rankings, only few comments or none at all.
Nothing more than lost money, because you can do what they do in only some hours.
Without paying.

How to get free links like black hat linkbaiters do?

What bad linkbaiters who are money horny, but no gifted writer, do is simple. They submit your article for republication at online directories.
Most of time they will use professionalised submission software to make this procedure go faster. This procedure might not be fully automated, somehow the submission still happens manually because automated directories are most of time blacklisted by SEs.
The funniest thing about this procedure, this service they sell, is that they provide you with the so desired backlinks, but that there is no case of buzz around the article. So no real linkbaiting has been done.
If have setup Google Alerts to notify you of every mention of your domain, or for a linkbait campaign the URI of the entry, you will see the new backlinks. But services such as Technorati and IceRocket might not count the backlinks of most directories. They might already have blacklisted most article directories.

So You Want Free Linkbait?

Generating the same effect, submitting your articles, for free is easy.
Firstly I hope you are able to write a decent enough article, niche interesting enough. If not, you better send the money and ask a real linkbaiter.
Once you have written that entry, you only need to grab yourself a demo version of Article Submitter Pro and you have 30 days to submit your articles to many online directories. Note that you will have to register at most directories. But instead of spending $500 and more, now you only needed some hours to get the same 20 links… or many more.

The Good Linkbait

Luckily there is also great and interesting linkbait2. So who said “snark was so mid 2006″?

1I know the term is annoying already, but expect to see it even more webwibe over the next months. Until it makes you puke and much longer even.
2It sucks to link to known linkbait.
No Number This is no linkbait.
